The Certified Medication Aide provides hands-on medication administration of designated residents during their shift under the supervision of the licensed nursing personnel. Ensures provision of quality resident care and uphold residence philosophy and resident well-being. Provides direct assistance with activities of daily living and support to residents.
Primary Responsibilities:
Resident Services
• Passes medication and gives treatments according to physician orders, in accordance with center policy and MA-C certification.
• Document medication/treatment and documentation in the electronic medical record.
• Provides quality care and meeting the needs of residents in accordance with community philosophy and policies.
• Provide ADL assistance and enrichment programming to residents with the center.
• Adheres to each resident’s individual service plan and notify the licensed nurse/clinical director and of any changes in resident condition.
• Coordinates resident care in conjunction with clinical director/clinical coordinator/ licensed nurse and other disciplines within the community to ensure quality care.
• Maintains a high level of medication aide competency, including on-going awareness of clinical best practices to align to regulatory requirements and organizations strategic plans.
• Accountable for compliance, excellence, and delivery of resident care in adherence with organization, local, state and federal regulations.
• Notifies licensed nurse of needed medication refills.
• Ensures proper documentation for medication assistance/administration.
• Maintains ongoing communication with the resident, resident’s family, licensed nurse and other appropriate parties regarding the resident’s clinical needs.
• Establishes and maintains good relationships with residents and their families.
• Ensures that all systems for providing and tracking resident care are completed in accordance with the community policies and procedures.
General Management
• Ensures proper medications administration is followed for Ohio Board of Nursing Guidelines.
• Ensures required paperwork for providing resident care is completed and up-to-date.
• Reviews daily any and all communication tools used in providing resident care.
• Communicates residents’ needs with licensed nurse and caregiver staff at change of shift and as needed.
Supervising and Training
• Leads by example, encourage teamwork, promote the community philosophy, and provide ongoing coaching to employees.
• Assists in the training of all resident care employees in accordance to community policies, training programs, and state
and federal regulations.
Communications
• Attends all regular staff meetings and required training sessions.
• Addresses any concerns or grievances shared by residents and families.
• Effectively communicates information pertaining to the residents on a “need to know” basis to other team members according to the residence policies and procedures.
• Notifies licensed nurse/supervisor or the clinical director if you observe a change in a resident’s condition.
• Accountable for compliance, excellence and delivery of resident care in adherence with organization, local, state and federal regulations.
• Maintains a positive and professional manner toward residents, visitors, families and co-workers.
• Adheres to all policies and procedures of Ohio Living.
Qualifications
Education
• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Current unencumbered certification for the state of Ohio to practice as a Certified Medication Aide required.
• CPR Certification preferred.
Experience
• One year experience in assisted living or other human services field preferred.
• Supervisory experience in a healthcare or service industry preferred.
• Proficiency with electronic medical records (EMR) preferred.
Other Requirements
• Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand the English language.
Physical Job Requirements
To fulfill job requirements, employee must be able to perform key physical task for extended periods of time. When supporting, lifting or transferring residents, proper body mechanics and safety measures as prescribed by the residence must be used.
In a typical eight- hour day, employee will:
• Stand/walk up to 8 hours a day
• Sit up to 2 hours a day
• Frequently support up to 70 pounds
• Occasionally lift/carry up to 50 pounds
