Staff Education Nurse - RN

The Staff Educator - RN plans, organizes, develops, and directs all in-service educational programs in accordance with current applicable federal, state, and local standards, guidelines, and regulations to ensure the highest degree of quality resident care is maintained at all times.

Essential Activities and Tasks 

Project Management - 40%

  • Meets the training/education needs of the life plan community by completing an annual Training Needs Analysis then planning, developing, conducting, and evaluating orientation, mandatory and elective education and on-the-job training programs.

  • Researches new educational information in order to remain current on programs, processes, and procedures that could impact current training and development projects.

  • Plans, develops and implements community educational outreach activities, and organizes and coordinates continuing education (CEU) programs for staff.

  • Works with community staff and consultants as necessary to implement recommended organizational/procedural development and/or changes.

  • Conducts follow up assessments to ensure the facilitation of training and development programs meet the employee’s needs and that the desired behaviors are being exhibited. Makes appropriate edits to programs as needed.

  • Oversees and maintains the integrity of the Employee Resource Center (ERC) and the selection of all instructional material, equipment, and training aids to ensure a modern, meaningful staff development program by working in collaboration with the corporate Information Systems Department.

  • Oversee the Nurse Aide Training Competency Evaluation Program (NATCEP).

  • Attends all-employee and departmental meetings and in-service training as scheduled or as directed.

People Management and Development - 30%

  • May directly supervisor the CNA Program Instructor.

  • Manages the development, planning, scheduling, monitoring, and delivers in-service training programs, on-the-job training, and orientation programs for the life plan community staff.

  • Fosters a positive work environment that attracts, retains, and motivates employees.

  • Interviews, selects, and orients new direct reports.

  • Defines, establishes, and promotes performance expectations so direct reports understand and demonstrate excellence through high quality and consistent performance.

  • Coaches and mentors employee performance throughout the life plan community by encouraging career and job competency development along with life skills, such as employee computer literacy.

  • Evaluates job performance of direct reports in accordance with the company policy and procedure and provides developmental guidance to staff for improved performance and growth.

  • Monitors accountability with organization requirements prescribed by the Employee Handbook.  Documents and engages employees who are routinely not observing these requirements in an effort to achieve compliance.  Works with Human Resources when circumstances arise that necessitate further documentation and intervention.

  • Ensures that there is a reasonable and sufficient plan for staffing should a direct report be absent or a direct reporting position be vacant.

  • Responds timely and thoughtfully to questions, requests, and work product from departmental staff that has been provided for review and approval.

Quality and Compliance Management - 30%

  • Maintains compliance with state and federal regulations by maintaining records, reports, instructional manuals, reference materials and all pertinent to instructional materials. Fulfills administrative requirements by completing all necessary forms, reports and record keeping.

  • Assists the Quality Assurance Committee in developing and implementing quality assurance monitoring systems.

  • Works with all department directors on the quality assurance and risk management indicators for all employees through coaching and developing initiatives that assist in meeting QA standards.

  • Maintains the confidentiality of resident information.

  • Administers and tracks all employee related health records (i.e. Mantoux testing, Hepatitis B vaccine administration), if applicable.

All other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education

  • Current unencumbered license for the state of Ohio to practice as a Registered Nurse (RN) required.

  • CPR Pro and First Aid Instructor certification preferred.

Experience

  • Two years experience educating staff members required.

  • Two years experience in a long-term care or health related field required.

  • Two years experience in a supervisory role preferred.

  • Proficiency with Windows, Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), and the internet required.

Other Requirements

  • Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand the English language.
